Prof. Helmout Modjtahedi

I graduated with BSc in Biomedical Sciences from University of Ulster in 1989 and completed my PhD followed by 6 years of postdoctoral studies (1989-1993) at The Institute of Cancer Research, University of London. In 1999, I moved to University of Surrey as a Clinical Lecturer in Tumor Immunology. In 2007, I joined School of Life Sciences at Kingston University London as Senior Lecturer and became Reader in Cancer Therapeutics in 2010. In the same year, I set up the Cancer Study group to promote collaborations between scientist and social scientists committed to Cancer Research at the Kingston University. In 2012, I was promoted to Professor of Cancer Biology. I contribute to the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. I am module leader for "Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy" module for taught MSc in Cancer Biology. I also lead a research team which includes several PhD students and postdoctoral and visiting fellows.

* Identification of novel therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers using monoclonal antibody technology.

Other Professional Activity
I am a member of several professional bodies including American Association for Cancer Research, and British Association for Cancer Research, Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS) and the Higher Education Academy (UK). I am also on the Editorial Board of several journals including Anti-Cancer Drugs, International Journal of Oncology, Oncology Reports, and Frontiers in Bioscience. During this period, I have also reviewed manuscripts for publication in a wide range of cancer journals including; British Journal of Cancer, Anti-Cancer Drugs, International Journal of Cancer, European Journal of Cancer, Cancer Immunotherapy and Pharmacology, Cancer Letter, Current Drug Targets, BMC Cancer etc.,
I have been collaborating with colleagues both nationally and internationally including Dr Suzanne Eccles (The Institute of Cancer Research, University of London), Dr Sharadah Essapen (St Luke's Cancer Centre, Royal Surrey County Hospital), Professor Angus Dalgleish ( St. George's University London), Dr Albert J. Wong (Stanford University, San Francisco), Dr Zhan Fan (MD Anderson cancer Centre, Houston, USA), Professor Abbas Ghaderi, (Shiraz Institute of Cancer Research, Iran), Dr Mohammad Rasaee (Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran) and Professor A Meenakshi (Madras Cancer Institute, India), and presented at both national and international conferences (e.g. in the USA, Greece, Germany, Italy, France, India, Iran, Cyprus, Ireland and Austria).
