Awards for Geology graduates

Recent KU Geology graduate, Delano Henry, has been awarded the British Sedimentological Research Group Prize for Best UK Undergraduate Sedimentology Project 2013-14 for his project dissertation “Outcrop Study of the Bridport Sands and Sherwood Sandstone, Major Reservoir Intervals in the Wytch Farm Oilfield”. This is a prestigious national prize  “…awarded to the best final-year undergraduate sedimentological project, and celebrates undergraduate skills and achievement in sedimentology.” The project was supervised by Prof Ian Jarvis. Delano is currently taking the MSc Petroleum Geology course at Imperial College, where he was awarded a full scholarship.

We have also heard that 2013 KU Geology graduate Rob Buchanan was recently awarded the Richard Fox Shield by the Thames Valley Group of the Geological Society after participating in their Young Geologist competition. This involved giving a 15 minute talk entitled ‘Looking beneath the Lizard Complex: crustal melting during ophiolite obduction’, on the geology of the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall.
