Vehicle Aerodynamics
Short Course
Course Aims
- Gain an in-depth knowledge of vehicle aerodynamics
- Appreciate the range of aerodynamic effects on vehicle operation and performance
- Examine the techniques and methods used for aerodynamic testing and simulation
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of key aerodynamic issues and their interaction with other vehicle systems
- Select and use appropriate tools for aerodynamic testing and simulation
- Show competence in the use of simulation software
- Critically analyse the data obtained from various simulation and test procedures
- Identify and evaluate how design changes will affect aerodynamic performance
Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes
- A comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles of mechanical and related engineering disciplines. (US1m)
- An understanding of the capabilities of computer based models for solving problems in engineering, and the ability to assess the limitations of particular cases. (E3m)
- Understanding of contexts in which engineering knowledge can be applied (e.g. operations and management, technology, development, etc) (P3)
