Vehicle Aerodynamics

Short Course

Course Aims

  • Gain an in-depth knowledge of vehicle aerodynamics
  • Appreciate the range of aerodynamic effects on vehicle operation and performance
  • Examine the techniques and methods used for aerodynamic testing and simulation

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of key aerodynamic issues and their interaction with other vehicle systems
  • Select and use appropriate tools for aerodynamic testing and simulation
  • Show competence in the use of simulation software
  • Critically analyse the data obtained from various simulation and test procedures
  • Identify and evaluate how design changes will affect aerodynamic performance

Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes

  • A comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles of mechanical and related engineering disciplines. (US1m)
  • An understanding of the capabilities of computer based models for solving problems in engineering, and the ability to assess the limitations of particular cases. (E3m)
  • Understanding of contexts in which engineering knowledge can be applied (e.g. operations and management, technology, development, etc) (P3)
