Short Course
Course Aims
- Introduce students the concept of using computer simulation for solving industrial problems such as scheduling, resources utilisation, bottleneck identification and management decisions making
- Explore the use of discrete event simulation software to build factory models for evaluation and analysis
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of discrete simulation modelling and its benefits in manufacturing industry
- Build relevant factory simulation models using the latest software system
- Apply simulation modelling techniques to solve different production scheduling problems
- Critically analyse the results produced by simulation models and to recommend creditable solutions
Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes
- A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the role and limitations of ICT, and an awareness of developing technologies in ICT
- Ability to extract data pertinent to an unfamiliar problem, and apply its solution using computer based engineering tools when appropriate
- An understanding of business application systems, business strategy analysis and the definition of an information strategy
- Ability to apply engineering techniques taking account of a range of commercial and industrial constraints
