Short Course
Course Aims
To give construction managers an appreciation of the advantages and disadvantages of evolving approaches to quality and safety management
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of the UK and EU framework of health and safety legislation
- Describe the role of the HSE in health and safety enforcement, and the concept of risk assessment
- Demonstrate knowledge of the CDM regulations, and other health and safety regulations which impact upon construction
- Demonstrate knowledge of quality management in relation to construction
- Describe the contents and operation of ISO 9000, and techniques used to produce quality improvement
Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes
- The ability to make general evaluations of commercial risks through some understanding of the basis of such risk
- Ability to apply engineering techniques taking account of a range of commercial and industrial constraints

Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to show evidence of an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.
