Course Aims
- Develop a fundamental understanding of 3D Solid Modelling within the context of Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing
- Develop an understanding of current and future supporting technologies for Design and Manufacturing within the engineering design process
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Generate complex 3D Solid Models including a variety of components parts and assemblies
- Demonstrate the ability to extract data using actual parts and assemblies for the development of 3D Solid Models
- Demonstrate effective mechanisms for parametric design and constraining of 3D Solid Model geometry
- Assess current and future trends of CAD/CAM technologies and their role in the development of complex products
Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes
- A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the role and limitations of ICT, and an awareness of developing technologies in ICT
- Ability to extract data pertinent to an unfamiliar problem, and apply its solution using computer based engineering tools when appropriate
- An understanding of the capabilities of computer based models for solving problems in engineering, and the ability to assess the limitations of particular cases
- Ability to use fundamental knowledge to investigate new and emerging technologies
