Short Course
Course Aims
Introduce students to the important operational and management aspects in a typical manufacturing company, and to provide students specific skills and software knowledge to identify and resolve common problems in industry
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of key management areas in a manufacturing company
- Critically evaluate and propose logical steps to overcome manufacturing problems
- Use specific techniques and software systems in production resources planning and control
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of specialist topics including MRP, ERP and JIT
Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of management and business practices, and their limitations, and how these may be applied appropriately to strategic and tactical issues
- Ability to extract data pertinent to an unfamiliar problem, and apply its solution using computer based engineering tools when appropriate
- An understanding of business application systems, business strategy analysis and the definition of an information strategy
- Ability to apply engineering techniques taking account of a range of commercial and industrial constraints

Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to show evidence of an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.
