Short Course
Course Aims
- Introduce students to the business environment in the UK and the Europe
- Give students the ability to analyse labour markets, resolve 'work life' tensions and to understand employment relations and human resources practices
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Critically analyse the business environment within and outside the EC trading boundaries
- Evaluate the relationship between manufacturing human resources policies
- Critically evaluate the traditional approaches towards achieving excellence and assess the problems with the human element of operations
- Assess the impact of international variations upon the employment relationship
Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of management and business practices, and their limitations, and how these may be applied appropriately to strategic and tactical issues
- Awareness of the framework of relevant legal requirements governing engineering activities, including personnel, health, safety, and risk (including environmental risk) issues
- An understanding of business application systems, business strategy analysis and the definition of an information strategy
- A thorough understanding of current practice and its limitations and some appreciation of likely new developments

Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to show evidence of an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.
