Short Course
Course Aims
- To provide the students with a detailed understanding of automotive structures and body design
- To examine the techniques and methods employed by designers and manufacturers in the creation of different vehicle structures
- To provide an understanding of the key manufacturing, safety, environmental, durability and cost issues appertaining.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of Automotive Structures and Design Methodology
- Select and use specific design and analytical techniques to facilitate an optimum design
- Demonstrate an in-depth awareness of key issues and influences surrounding Automotive Structure & Body Design
Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes
- A comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles of mechanical and related engineering disciplines. (US1m)
- Wide knowledge and comprehensive understanding of design processes and methodologies and the ability to apply and adapt them in unfamiliar situations. (D1m)
- Understand customer and user needs and the importance of considerations such as aesthetics. (D2)
- Manage the design process and evaluate outcomes. (D6)
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of engineering materials and components. (P2m)
- Understanding of contexts in which engineering knowledge can be applied (e.g. operations and management, technology, development, etc). (P3)
- Ability to apply engineering techniques taking account of a range of commercial and industrial constraints. (P8m)

Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to show evidence of an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.
