Advanced Materials Processing

Short Course

Course Aims

  • Identify the importance of modern materials in advanced manufacturing processes and to examine both materials and processes which are available or being developed
  • Examine aspects of quality assurance related to advanced materials

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

  • Identify the interrelationship between the structure and properties of modern materials
  • Critically analyse how material structure and properties affect the manufacturing process
  • Demonstrate how quality assurance techniques can be applied to the manufacturing processes of modern materials

Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes

  • Knowledge of characteristics of particular equipment, processes or products
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of engineering materials and components
  • A comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles of mechanical and related engineering disciplines
  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of mathematical models relevant to the mechanical and related engineering disciplines, and an appreciation of their limitations

Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to show evidence of an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.
