Course Aims
- To introduce the students to aspects of Advanced Automotive Engineering
- To give an understanding of Developing Technologies in Powertrain and Braking System Design
- To examine Direct Fuel Injection Systems for Spark and Compression Ignition Applications
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of Diesel Technology
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of High Pressure Direct Injection Systems for Compression Ignition and Spark Ignition Applications
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principle combustion characteristics as applied to Compression and Spark Ignition Engines
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of All Wheel Drive & Brake-by-wire Systems, their design, operating principles and application
- Demonstrate the ability to use Engine Simulation and modelling Software
Contribution to UK-SPEC Outcomes
- A comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles of mechanical and related engineering disciplines. (US1m)
- Ability to use fundamental knowledge to investigate new and emerging technologies. (E1m)
- Understanding of contexts in which engineering knowledge can be applied (e.g. operations and management, technology, development, etc). (P3)

Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to show evidence of an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.
