Biography

Dr Nada Philip is an associate professor in the field of Mobile health (mhealth) at Kingston University London. She is the founder of the research group Digital Media for Health. She was the co-director of the Medical Information and Network Technologies (MINT) research centre for the period of 2013-2015. She obtained her PhD in Mobile Healthcare (mhealth) with the thesis title 'Medical Quality of Service for Optimised Ultrasound Streaming in Wireless Robotic Tele-ultrasonography System' from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing at Kingston University, UK in 2008.
Her research interests are mainly in the areas Data and Multimedia Communication in healthcare and medical applications. She has more than 10 years of experience in mobile healthcare (mhealth). She has been involved in many national and international mhealth projects in the areas of chronic disease management (e.g. diabetes, COPD and Cancer), decision support systems, behavioural change management, telehealth and telecare in developing countries, need assessment and evaluation of telehealth services, Social robotics, medical video streaming, medical Quality of Service and medical Quality of Experience and Big Data for Health, namely; OTELO, E-Dispute, Delphi, LTE-Health, WELCOME and AEGLE. She is part of one of the top 10 finalist teams (SCANURSE) of The Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE (2014) for developing innovative and integrated diagnostic technologies, helping citizens make their own reliable health diagnoses anywhere and anytime.
She has expertise in the full life cycle of user (patient/healthcare professional) centred mhealth software application design and development. She is knowledgeable in the infrastructure and connectivity of Body Area Network, Personal Area Network, Internet of Things, Web of Things and 4G communications beyond systems including Small cells, WiMAX and LTE/LTE advanced based mobile systems. Her expertise also includes medical mobile multimedia communication including image and video processing, analysis and streaming and the provision of Quality of Service and Quality of Experience from the medical prospective.
She is the author and co-author of more than 50 journals, conferences and book chapters. She is a member of the review panels for many Transactions and journals and a member of the program committee for a number of international conferences. She is a member and editor of the ITU Focus Group standard for M2M service layer for e-health. She is a member of the IEEEp1903.1- Standard for Content Delivery Protocols of Next Generation Service Overlay Network (NGSON). She was the Chair for many special sessions and workshops for IEEE/EMBC2011 and 2014 and MobiHealth2014. She has been an invited speaker at a number of Industrial, scientific and governmental events (e.g. ETSI and Intel).
She is also a member of both the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

» I am a Co-PI in this project and my role is to investigate the mobile health monitoring aspects that include design and development of the data acquisition module to acquire data from this novel optical sensor.

» This is recognised as a Flagship project for integrated and connected care. I am a Co-PI and technical lead in this project. 5. British Council DELPHI grant for "e-health inclusion in Medical Higher education in Developing countries". Prof. Robert Istepanian and Dr. Nada Philip. £72,000. 2010-2012.
» The project objectives are as follows:
1. The introduction of innovative and strategic e-Health plans for medical education policy and research for Iraq.
2. Identify and implement two pilot and proof of concept e-health projects and trials as identified and classified as most needed for immediate healthcare services in Iraq .
3. Recommendations with lessons learned and future plans for Iraq healthcare policy adoptions, larger deployment and integration of e-health within the existing medical educational and healthcare system in the country.
» My role is to train and teach healthcare professionals from the developing countries and post-war Middle Eastern countries, including Iraq, in the area of e-health and its inclusion in their medical school teaching and learning curriculum and strategy. The project was ranked as one of the best for that call in terms of results achieved.
6. EU FP6 – E-Dispute Medical electronic Dispute (MeDispute) for NHS UK.
» I was a research assistant for the project to design and develop a complaints system for a number of Hospitals in London and Bristol. E-Dispute was selected the best EU project of the year 2005.
7. EU FP6 – OTELO EU Project - Mobile Tele-Echography System Using an Ultra-light Robot (OTELO), Robert Istepanian, EU (2001-2004)
» I was the research assistant for the project to investigate Quality of Service (QoS) provision in transmitting ultrasound videos over low bandwidth 2.5G and 3G wireless communications.

» I am the PI of this project and the leader of the concept and the consortium creation. We are planning to resubmit in the forthcoming EU H2020 calls.
