Dr Siva P R Muppala

Dr.-Ing. Siva Muppala joined Kingston University London in September 2006 as a research lecturer on a permanent contract in the Faculty of Engineering. He graduated from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati in 1997 with Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering, and Master of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1999.
He worked as a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering in a private engineering college in Tamilnadu, India for some time before he moved to Germany. He received Dr.-Ing. degree from Friedrich-Alexander-University-Erlangen-Nuremberg in August 2005 for the topic 'Modelling of Turbulent Premixed High-pressure Combustion with Application to Gas Turbines'.
In his doctoral work, under the supervisions of Prof. Alfred Leipertz and Prof. Friedrich Dinkelacker, he numerically studied the effects of fuel-type and high-pressures on combustion characteristics in lean premixed turbulent flames. It resulted in a successful development of an algebraic flame surface wrinkling model. This research was supported by The Bavarian Research Cooperation Turbulent Combustion (FORTVER), under the subtopic Simulation of pressure influence
and extinction processes of inhomogeneous premixed turbulent flames.
As a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Miltiadis Papalexandris at Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium until September 2006 Muppala has contributed to the advancements in the modelling of premixed turbulent combustion of multicomponent fuel/air mixtures.
He has recently been promoted to Senior Lectureship in August 2009.
His current research expertise is in the areas of laminar combustion, premixed turbulent flames, ignition, and smoke modelling.
He is a member of ASME, AIAA, and Combustion Institute (German section), and a peer reviewer of Combustion Institute and Progress in Energy and Combustion Science.
His teaching subjects include Technology Mathematics, Engineering Science, Thermodynamics, Thermofluids, Energy Systems.
