Dr Andreas Hoppe

School/Department: Computer Science & Mathematics
Position: Senior Lecturer

Dr Hoppe is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing. He obtained his PhD in Biomedical Image Processing from the University of Glamorgan in collaboration with the University of Wales College of Medicine.

Dr Hoppe's research is the the area of quantitative microscopy and bio-imaging. He is a member of Digital Imaging Research Centre (DIRC) where he leads the bio-imaging research group which aims to develop quantitative imaging techniques for bio-medical applications.

He received a British Council British-Polish Research Partnership Programme award for an international research collaboration with the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw. He received EPSRC funding GR/S34250/01 to develop a direct viewing chamber for live cell imaging of cancer cell adhesion and transmigration in collaboration with the Light Microscopy Unit at Lincoln's Inn Fields Laboratories of Cancer Research UK. Dr Hoppe also works with the Mathematical Modelling Unit and the Apoptosis and Proliferation Control Laboratory at CRUK to provide imaging based measurement techniques to support the modelling of cell growth patterns.

The collaboration with the Department of Medical Sciences at St George's Medical School University of London helped to devise automated imaging techniques to quantify the migratory behaviour of cells under shear stress.

Dr Hoppe is a fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society.
