Dr Siaka Dembele

School/Department: Mechanical and Automotive Engineering
Position: Senior Lecturer

Siaka Dembele, currently an Associate Professor in Thermofluids, was awarded a PhD in Heat Transfer & Energy Engineering in 1998 from the leading Engineering Institute INSA (Lyon-France) for research on fire radiation attenuation by water spray curtains. His PhD thesis was carried out in the frame of the project ASTRRE (1994-1997), jointly funded by the European Commission and the oil and gas industry. His research work was the first to characterise experimentally the spectral radiation attenuation of water sprays, and is now widely used as a reference in the field. Since joining the Fire research group at Kingston University in 1998, he has been involved in various research projects on spectral radiation heat transfer modelling and its applications to jet and pool fires, gas radiation properties modelling, fire modelling, fire protection by water mist, micromist, sprinklers and glazing behaviour in fires. He is presently the leader of the Fire, Explosion and Fluid Dynamics (FEFD) research team.
